Rhythm as a means of knowledge

Man has been given two different possibilities of knowledge so that he can recognize and resolve the various aspects of contradictory and in this way he can succeed in learning the truth.
Man's first capability is born by means of direct and concrete contact with the outside world, the second is born through the psychological re-elaboration of the impressions received in "the soul's images" that lead us to an emotional and intuitive thought and knowledge.

The first is the real knowledge of the subject (read stone), the second is psycho - intellectual perception of shapes (rough, square shape of the stone). Between these two types of knowledge of reality, there rises a fluid delimitation between the logic and non-logic fields and the harmonic synthesis between these two fields has always been the true way that can lead to the comprehension of reality and truth.

On this line of synthesis between sleeping and waking, one develops the mythical thought which the Upanishad already had attributed great value of logic and cosmic reality to. If this reality becomes known in an incorrect way, for example not making a myth of the sacred texts or through a too figurative interpretation of dreams or a desecration of symbols and rites, it will be more difficult, if not impossible, for the human being, to enter into his most intimate self and he will be denied his instinctive sense of affirmation of life.

A real aid in covering this road of reintegration is represented by rhythm. It is necessary to really look at a rhythmic conception of man's life in harmony with his interior rhythms and those of the universe. A real rhythm is, in fact, able to go beyond, that is, to make the primitive world resound in our concrete existence. Where and when our unconscious manages to intercept the primitive rhythms of the universal archetypes (that is, a conjunction between micro and macro cosmos), we shall have the possibility to let live again those creative, regenerative powers that in man, as we traditionally know him, do not come from the brain but from the heart or as explicitly expressed in yoga: powers that are in balance from the root of charka to the forehead of charka and only returning to the heart do they recognize the only true power that unites in itself all the other powers.

In this instant our heart reduces the bipolarity of rhythm to that minimum impersonal, primitive, hardly sufficient to maintain a biological existence.
The waves of rhythm flow almost equally, so that their duplicity tends to unite. Then man instils at the same pace his conscience in a state in which there is absence of time and space. No longer do the opposite poles represent contrasts to overcome, but they even become confluent, cause and effect identify themselves and this "time" can go either ahead or behind or can stop.

What is important is that the bipolarity of rhythm, almost totally fused, makes possible a participation in that time of the primitive world without space and unwinding in an acoustic form whose "empty forms" represent the last obstacle in front of the silence of illumination that is totally without time. This time can be lived only outside space, that is not quantitatively but only qualitatively as a form of the greatest intensity.

Even in the Christian mystic, in the Indian system Tantra, in Zen, in the hermetic way, this intense event is the presupposition for every spiritual transformation being this the only way that leads from the duplicity of our daily life to the unity of man's true essence. Only on this way can we reach the mystery of the coexistence of the present time in the original and infinite time and of man's individuality in the infinite impersonality of the All.
